Mt. Eccles Elementary School is a pre-kindergarten through sixth grade NCLB Blue Ribbon School, providing quality education for 180 students.  The school has ten classroom teachers as well as teachers for music, band for fifth and sixth grade, physical education, special education, and English Language Learners.  All students in grades three through six have their own classroom computer and grades K-2 share a computer cart. All the classrooms are equipped with smartboards and surround sound systems.

Mt. Eccles offers elementary students the opportunity to participate and compete in the State Geography Bee, Battle of the Books, as well as various contests that are approved by the State of Alaska and Federal Government.

We work in unison with the City of Cordova who provides the use of the city library, pool, and museum.  Mt. Eccles also partners with Prince William Sound Science Center and the US Forest Service who provides the students with monthly science hands-on classes and field trips.  These partners along with the Chamber of Commerce include our K-6 students in quality “Sea Week”, and the international “Shorebird Festival” activities.  The community health nurse provides maturation education classes for the fourth through sixth graders and our local law enforcement are involved in the DARE program. Hunters Safety program is taught annually for students ages 12 and above.

Our school is a TRIBES school.  TRIBES is a process of creating a school culture that maximizes learning through caring and support, high expectations, and meaningful participation.  There are four agreements that the school community will follow.

  • Mutual Respect
  • Attentive Listening
  • Appreciations-No Put Downs
  • Right to Pass
